borderline_: The intention of the film is to create an environment in which it occupies of empathy and compassion. borderline_ is an emotive response, voicing my own despair in reflecting the world that surrounds me through the medium of video and sound. It addresses with conflicting breaking down images a positive voice, looking at the refugee and immigration crisis, and closing of borders happening currently across the world, but particularly looks at my own experience in the UK and relation to this. Using new technologies to try to communicate on an individual scale, to create an overall wider and deeper network of ideas.
Samantha Harvey graduated from MA Photography at Central Saint Martins College, London in 2016. Influenced by Geert Lovink and Florian Schnieder’s idea of a ‘Virtual World’ and how to radicalise the rules of access, Samantha seeks to explore how shared capacities and decision-making could potentially create alternative social spaces. Not just within a digital space in which the work already occupies, but taking ideas that exist in the virtual and using those concepts to bleed into a physical space.
Samantha has exhibited internationally, continuing to explore the dialogue between the virtual and physical environment. Recent exhibitions and screenings include the Artists' Film Biennial: "Outside" at ICA, London, ADAF: Athens 12th Digital Arts Festival, and #TFW105 – What Happens When… at Powrplnt, Brooklyn, New York Best.
